YOU WILL NOT WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP THAT WAY!

By: Opinionated MJ (Michael Tolliver Jr)

This is a PSA to James Harden.

YOU WILL NOT WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP THAT WAY.

You will not win a championship by taking almost double the shots as Russell Westbrook. You won’t win by taking the ball out of his hands. You won’t win the title by going full ISO. You just can’t do it. You heard Kobe earlier this year. It will not work in the playoffs.

The team banished away Chris Paul and you didn’t even try to keep him thoroughly involved. He is the tone setter. He gets everyone going. Surgical at times. He was also always looking to get the team involved and engaged. He might’ve been hard on you guys but that comes with the territory. You made him look 38, Mr. Harden. Chris Paul is a walking 20 & 10 without you. You made him look like 15 & 6.

You need to expand your game to catch and shoot. You can be Kobe, but let the offense develop first. You can be the bailout. You can be Kobe. He should’ve been called “8 seconds or less”. He was always given the ball in the toughest positions with no clock and he succeeded. I’ve seen your body of work. You’re capable. Let’s see it happen. You’ve got Russell Westbrook and Clint Capela. You’ve got Eric Gordon. That’s your core. A very talented core. Don’t waste it.

I don’t want to see this season play out where you’re scoring 40 and Russell has 14. That was a loss. You guys won the game where you took 16 shots and he took 17. There must be balance. Can’t be one of you putting up 25 shots to 13 shots from the other. Haven’t you learned? The Warriors, your enemy, have succeeded with ball movement. Spurs as well. Recently, the Raptors won with enough ball movement and trust in teammates. Allow your teammates to inherit bigger responsibility. Kobe did it with Gasol, Odom, and Bynum. Even Sasha & D-Fish. LeBron did it with Kyrie, Kevin, JR, and Tristan. Take notes. I have high hopes for this team. I can see a championship. The only way is balance.

Don’t turn Russell into Chris Paul. Don’t stand around while he works. Work harder. It’ll pay off. Learn to move off the ball. You’ve seen what Steph accomplished with Klay? With Kevin? You’ve got the blueprint, except it’s for 2. There’s enough basketball to go around for both of you. Now be this leader you claim to be. This MVP you claim to be. Scoring 50 will get you a scoring title. Scoring 30 might get you an NBA championship.

Good luck. I’ll be watching.

How so?

I was the reason why we lost 3-1 to the Warriors. I was the reason why I won MVP and couldn’t win in the playoffs. I was the reason why KD left. I was the reason why Harden was traded, for monetary reasons. I was the reason we haven’t exceeded expectations. I want my MVP! I want my MVP Award! Triple double! Triple double! Why not?

Why did Ibaka get traded? Why did KD not communicate with me that he was leaving? Why didn’t my organization retain Scott Brooks? My organization gave me a max deal. Me, me, me, me, ME!

I averaged a triple double! If anyone else did, they would be a basketball god! I’m not even recognized? You don’t see my drive? My intensity? Why not? Even MJ sees it! There’s no way you could expect me to win alone. You think I’m villainous? You think I’m all about myself? Ok? How so?

Now I sacrifice my game. Now we win without me performing beyond expectations. We have now pieces and still aren’t at full health. We’re the team that will certainly rival the Warriors in the playoffs this year. Why can’t you see my worth on the floor? Why can’t you see I should be considered Top 5? Why not?

I’m a villain because KD left? I’m an alpha, that’s true. KD is being called expletives over there. I just wanted to win. I support my teammates. I ride or die for my team. I am a great athlete rather you admit it or not. Oh, so and so could average a triple double huh? Why haven’t they? Why is it me? Why not?

I have proven that I have grown. I have proven what I’m all about now. Are you watching? Are you only looking at percentages? What about my effect from me being on the floor? What happens if we make the finals? What if I win a championship this year? Why not? Then what will you have to say? What’s next??

NBA Outlook: One Month In

By: Opinionated MJ

Well well, how the mighty have stumbled. Both the Warriors and Cavs came out of the gate stumbling over their own feet. We just seen LeBron have to drop 57 in a performance that exhibited his paint domination, especially when you don’t have a rim protector. You need that to beat LeBron. We’ve seen the Warriors lose to teams that are truly suiting up to take their best shot at them. They didn’t get it together until they played the Spurs this week. We’re about 4 weeks in.

The surprises of the first month to me are the Clippers, Magic, Celtics, Pistons, and Grizzlies. They’ve all come out and have tried to set a tone for the beginning of the season that they can only build upon. No one expected the Grizzlies to be putting on such a strong start. Especially out west. The Pistons sat atop the east for a second, so did the Magic. Extra shocking indeed. The Clippers have shown what their new culture is since they’ve moved on past being “Lob City”. They seem to be more about ball movement and defense all while playing through Blake Griffin. Lastly, who would’ve thought that the Celtics would’ve endured the loss they suffered in the first game to Gordon Hayward? They’ve run off on a win streak, including a huge comeback against the OKC Thunder. Their youth along with Kyrie Irving and a surprising start from Al Horford have carried them along.

My early picks for MVP are Giannis Antetokounmpo and Russell Westbrook. Giannis is leading by far with me giving the other nod to Russell because of his willingness to incorporate his teammates while still very closely averaging a triple-double, again! Giannis came out the gate like a man on a mission. Maybe Kobe challenging him to become MVP has given him a straight path in the focus department. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s in the east and because of it he can surely attain this feat if he continues this trend. He’s got to land his team in the top 2 seeds out east and top 5 in the NBA and he’ll receive my vote.

My early vote for Rookie of the Year is Ben Simmons with Jayson Tatum following behind him in second. I’ve got Kyle Kuzma as my sleeper. He’s sneaky good and even reminds me of Kobe sometimes. Guess it just cause he’s a Laker. It’ll be interesting to see what November will bring us. October was a bad month. Numerous injuries, bad starts to strong teams, and slow beginnings to some big name rookies.

My pick for Most Improved Player is clearly Kristaps Porzingis. No argument at this time.

I’ll provide more insight on these topics and more in the next podcast. Be on the lookout for that.

Hello November! Don’t forget to set your clocks back!

This Is All On Kevin Durant

By: Opinionated MJ

Hey Kevin, it’s your time to put up or shut up!

The Warriors are currently seeing a growing lead in the first quarter against the Spurs, game 4. Klay Thompson is the only player who is experiencing some inconsistency but maybe the incoming rest will help him adjust to the physical nature and intensity that the Cavaliers will bring once they stop messing around with the Celtics. Adam Silver must’ve told them to chill and let the Celts get a game. Steph Curry has been taking the ball to the hole and he’s been having good looks from midrange than usual. He’s moving his feet well on the defensive end as well, although, he still endured some shaky foul calls in Game 3. Reminded me of the 2016 NBA Finals. I won’t forget Iman Shumpert running into him and the refs calling a foul on Steph who was already stationary in his position on the floor. Bets must have been placed, eh?

Steve Kerr is out and everyone is concerned about the progression of his health. He’s been traveling with the team and I’m sure that behind the scenes he’s doing what he must to keep this team rolling so they can win another championship. I didn’t mention that Draymond Green is looking like the greatest glue guy every assembled and placed on an NBA roster. Potential Defensive Player of the Year. He has my vote with Kawhi as a close second if I incorporate the playoffs into my vote. If I didn’t, then he’d be a distant second. I currently think highly of Kawhi right now. He’s not here to put a stop to any of this madness. LeBron is up next, so this leads me to what I really want to touch on. The finals will be about two men: LeBron James and Kevin Durant.

Can Durant elevate his game to another level? Will he be able to attain the eye of the tiger? I’m sure LeBron will matchup with Kevin, and this is where he will be depended upon to still perform and put up his usual stats and more. I have very high expectations of him if the Warriors want to have any chance to beat the Cavs. That’s the reason he came on board, right? To be able to get back at LeBron. What better way to win your first championship than to do it over LeBron? His own fans call him the Greatest of All Time. There’s no better way to win a ring than to add a win over LeBron onto your resume. Regardless of who you’re teamed with. They said LeBron would be better than Jordan if he beat this jump shooting Warriors team. Let’s not mention the league caters to an up-tempo game with much less physical play and he’s 6’9 250-260. Football! Elevate your game Kevin!

LeBron is bringing his well-oiled Cleveland Cavs machine to the war and he’s looking to repeat. Can you stop him on his way to creating a dynasty? Can you etch your name above those who should’ve won a championship but they seen the great Michael Jordan? Can you get that elusive ring that Barkley, Miller, Malone & Stockton, Payton & Kemp, Patrick Ewing, Allen Iverson, and many others don’t have? Should we add Carmelo Anthony to that bunch right now? Can you be the difference maker in this series? Can you take over the game when you need to and not be a spectator to the Steph Curry show? Will you be what this team was missing last year when they gave up a 3-1 lead? Ironically, the same lead you forfeited to the same team you now are a part of. Are you here just to get Golden State to the promised land and shockingly sabotage their plans and laugh in their faces when you go back to Russell Westbrook and OKC with all their plays, knowledge, and execution plans as you disappear in the Finals on purpose? That’s a conspiracy but I wouldn’t put it past you until you prove me wrong. This year it’s all about you, Kevin Durant. It’s time to put up or shut up. Period. Barring injuries or deficiency in team health, you have no excuses. Deliver!

1-3, Russ.

By: Opinionated MJ
It could be the MVP story for ages. Could just be another loss and the end of this conversation. So now Russ has the opportunity to join the ranks of teams that have recently come from 1-3. Imagine what the James Harden memes would be. Would that be enough to say Russell is a great? No matter what the next series holds? What extent would you be willing to bet on Russell? I don’t think anyone would.

A miracle is probably the only thing to describe it. It would be something to add to a very impressive resume for ONE season thats full of many that the legends currently had that he’s taken over or tied. Plus Durant just left, that should put a multiplier on the true meaning of it all. We can clearly see who means much more to their team when it comes to winning. Russell takes too many shots? Then people want to criticize him. Let his teammates do their thing and he runs into questions from the media that I believe try to put a divide and teams and their star players as well. Good move Russ!

The thing we all really want to know is if you can actually turn this around and will your team to a series win. The hype lies within it. It solidifies you as one of the best when it comes to legendary single season performance…

Then the hate will come. The Harden fans will want to see your career ended after they go through another season where Harden was close. You’ll encounter LeBron & Steph level hate. You’ll be the face of what a competitor is in the NBA, in my opinion. We’ll see Harden fans waiting for another Player’s Choice Awards in complete anger.

That’s where they will find their foundation to argue that Harden was “the REAL MVP!” He definitely wouldn’t be, not in this instance. From early reports, “Take that for data!”, you’re the frontrunner for the award.

So why not cap everything with a 1-3 comeback? Win or go home.
